The Gig is Up.

Well, I have a confession to make. I haven't been entirely forthright with my motivation in starting this blog. Don't get me wrong - you're great. And sure, we have some stuff to work on like anyone - you could comment more, I could be funny all of the time and less 2nd grade teacher crafty-ish. (Absolutely nothing personal teacher friends - you are COOL. WAY cool.)

But so far I feel good about where we're at in our relationship. But because I respect you, I have to tell you the whole truth. (And no Morgan, I'm not punking you and I really am still not pregnant. Hear that Mom? This is not a baby blog. Or a place for family issues, but I digress.)

I'm moving to Southeast Asia. Yes, and Baxter is coming too. And no, nowhere near where this picture is, I just thought it was pretty.

Many of you who know us, know that our heart and sense of calling has long been overseas. From traveling in college, what we studied in seminary; all of what we have done has been a part of the Lord's process into moving us towards this. Sure, we all had questions when the whole "work for a chocolate company" bit came into play post seminary, but that too has been a part of this season of preparation.

Baxter and I are going to teach English at a high school, in hopes of establishing an English resource center. Students in this area come from rural and impoverished villages, and it is our hope to teach them not only about language, but about the hope that we possess.

We are eager to start our lives there, and are hoping to hop the pond in late June. Yes, as in four months from this exact moment. (!!!!!) We are hopeful that this would be the beginning of a rich and challenging season for us, and I can only imagine the fun/crazy/"no really did that just happen?" type of adventures that might fill this little page.

If you would like to know more specifically about what we'll be doing and how you can be a part, feel free to leave a comment below or email me your address and I'll send a letter your way. Until then, "ZHI-JEN", which is very poorly transliterated and I'm sure even more poorly said "goodbye". (i had to include that, you know that, right?)

  6. Katie, David and I worked with Baxter summer of 2003 at Mfuge in Nashville. We briefly met you in New Orleans before the two of you were married. We are so excited about this journey the Lord is leading you on and we would love to hear more about your great adventures in Asia!

  7. Sweet Katie, Your mom has known this was coming since the day you brought home a framed picture from Sunbeams when you were 5 years old and had written the words "I want to be a missionary" on the frame. I saw her last week and she was smiling when she said how gratifying it was as a parent to see your child faithfully walking the path God has ordained for her. I'm looking forward to more news from you as this exciting chapter of life unfolds for you and Baxter. Praying daily, Karen Reeves
